Horror Game News 18th April 2025

This week’s horror gaming roundup brings haunted mansions, classic remakes, and parkour pandemonium. Ready for a scare? Let’s get into it!

Deck of Haunts Invites You to Become the Nightmare on May 7th

If you’ve ever wanted to be the haunted house instead of the hapless victim, your time has come. Deck of Haunts, the sinister deckbuilding roguelike from DANGEN Entertainment and Mantis Games, is set to unleash its full horrors on PC (Steam) on May 7th, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions haunting consoles later this year.

Set in 1970s America, you don’t play as a ghost hunter—you play as the house itself: a forsaken 1920s art deco mansion, now pulsing with supernatural malice after decades of abandonment. By day, you’ll meticulously design your labyrinthine lair, placing traps and special rooms to protect your Heart room—the core of your power. By night, it’s time to lure in unsuspecting humans, unleash your deck of terrifying haunt cards, and drive your guests to the brink of madness… or simply finish them off and harvest their essence.

Each run is a new nightmare, with an ever-expanding arsenal of haunt cards, mansion rooms, human traits to exploit, and formidable bosses. The more fear you sow, the more powerful your mansion becomes—attracting not just thrill-seekers but law enforcement, priests, and the dreaded Stone Masons, all eager to challenge your reign of terror.

With its blend of strategic deckbuilding, mansion management, and deliciously dark humour, Deck of Haunts is ready to let you embrace your inner poltergeist and turn the tables on humanity. Will your haunted halls become the stuff of legend, or will the living finally put your restless spirit to bed? Find out when the haunting begins on May 7th.

Gothic 1 Remake: A Classic Reborn for a New Generation

The cult RPG classic is being resurrected with bold ambition as Alkimia Interactive lifts the veil on the Gothic 1 Remake. The Barcelona-based studio is carefully walking the tightrope between nostalgia and innovation, determined to honour what made the original a legend while reimagining it for modern audiences.

This complete overhaul isn’t just about sharper visuals—though the world of Myrtana is now rendered in stunning detail thanks to Unreal Engine 5. The team has reworked everything from character animations to environmental design, promising a living, breathing, open world where NPCs follow daily routines- and react to your actions, and the world itself feels more dynamic than ever. Forgotten corners and cut content from the original are finally getting their time in the spotlight, with expanded dungeons, new hidden paths, and deeper orc lore.

Alkimia Interactive addresses long-standing plot holes and inconsistencies, refining the story for newcomers and die-hard fans. Combat has been modernised for fluidity and tactical depth- while still retaining the deliberate, weighty feel that Gothic veterans love. The branching faction system, enhanced magic, and a more immersive UI all work together to deliver over 50 hours of gameplay—plus even more for those who want to explore every secret and side quest.

Whether you’re a returning convict or a first-time visitor to the Colony, the Gothic 1 Remake aims to deliver a true RPG adventure: challenging, atmospheric, and full of meaningful choices. Prepare to carve your legend in the mines of Khorinis when the remake launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S later in 2025. Feeling impatient? Why not check out the playable demo over on Steam now?!

Finding Frankie Launches with Parkour Mayhem and Leaderboards

The horror mascot with a penchant for parkour is finally out of the box—Finding Frankie launched globally on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S earlier this week, on April 15th, and it’s already turning heads (and stomachs) with its bouncy, blood-soaked antics. This isn’t your average horror platformer; it’s a game show gone mad, where you’ll need quick reflexes and a good sense of humour to survive Frankie’s twisted challenges.

Players can leap, vault, and sprint through SUPERLOU’s chaotic world, dodging traps and outsmarting a cast of quirky characters like Henry Hotline and the mischievous Noob Noobs. The launch brings a parkour-packed “out now” trailer, setting the tone for the frantic action that awaits.

Having spent time with the PS5 version of the game, I can say that Finding Frankie is a riotous blend of slapstick horror and skill-based platforming. The global leaderboards and in-game timer add a competitive edge, making each run feel like a fresh challenge—especially when you’re being watched by Frankie, even in the vents! The ability to reset the game and chase your own best times keeps the experience endlessly replayable.

Console players can also crank up the challenge with newly added inverted controls, while PC players will get their turn this summer. And for collectors, a boxed edition packed with extras is set to launch on 30th May.

If you’re after a horror game that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still manages to get your heart racing, Finding Frankie is well worth a play. See you at the finish line!
