Echoes of the Living Has a Haunting New Demo
Just in time for Steam Next Fest and Spooky Season
We previewed Echoes of the Living in Issue #1 of Fearzine and loved the robust Resident Evil 2 vibes. Now, there is a new demo for Steam Next Fest of the upcoming survival horror game from indie team MoonGlint.
Echoes of the Living is a dark classic survival horror game developed by couple Alvaro and Laura. They have been working on their take on the genre inspired by some of the greats for several years. We previewed the game in issue 1 of the magazine and were very impressed. I said it's "one of the best and closest spiritual successors of Resident Evil 2 out there."
Octavia explores a spooky mansion
The team has released a new demo for the October Steam Next Fest. This new prologue demo features the opening section for protagonist Liam and starts with a short intro and tutorial with his girlfriend and PI, Octavia. After receiving a mysterious letter, Octavia goes to investigate. This portion teaches the basics of gameplay and sets the mood in an incredibly dark and foreboding forest mansion.
In my time with the demo, I was impressed by the level of detail and freshness I experienced. There are a lot of clever elements that you rarely see, even from AAA horror games. Elements like spooky foreshadowing are used expertly, such as a shadow of a zombie lumbering off-camera as the character asks, "Who's there?"
After Octavia disappears, the demo switches to Liam as he enters the city, and the nightmare truly begins. Throughout my time with this and previous versions of the game, I constantly felt the nods to Resident Evil 2 and appreciate how well it pays homage to it. Other games have tried to capture that magic, but none have done it as well as Echoes of the Living.
We are excited to share an exclusive look and reveal of a new character for the game provided to us by MoonGlint, Marcus Wallace. Who he is and what role he will play is still a mystery, but we do know this, MoonGlint will be opening up casting for the character this week. So if you are a voice actor, keep your eyes peeled.
Who is Marcus?
Echoes of the Living is slated to release early next year, and we certainly cannot wait to experience the full and terrifying game. Please support this team by playing the demo and wishlisting on Steam.
