Gunnar Glasses Review - Worth the Hype?
As an accountant by day and a gamer and editor by night, I am in front of screens all day every day. It’s literally my life. When Gunnar kindly sent us a few sets of their glasses, I was excited to try them out. I tried the pair of Gunnar glasses styled after Ciri in The Witcher, and my partner tried the Fallout and Cyberpunk pairs.
I sat down to read through Gunnar’s site to see how they could potentially help me in my day-to-day life. The glasses feature high-wrap optics that sit close to the face, capture humidity near the eye, and are designed to alleviate dry eye from digital screen viewing. It also says the lenses bend light before it reaches the eye, allowing images to be seen more sharply letting the eye muscles relax. One of the things I read on the site and what I was most excited to test out is that the lenses have a tint on them that filters and balances artificial light, protecting eyes from extended eye strain.
Do they live up to the hype?
The office that I work at has large overhead fluorescent lights. I often come home with a migraine after a day of staring at my screen with those large lights over my head. I can say that after a few days of wearing the Gunnar glasses in my office, I did not have a headache. I haven’t been able to work in my office and stare at my computer screen without my Gunnar glasses lately. I used to wear my prescription glasses with the blue-light filter, but the Gunnar glasses have been my go-to since I tried them.
I also deal with a lot of dry eye issues, and I feel my eyes relax and haven’t needed to use my eye drops. Win-win. I haven’t tried them while driving because I need my prescription glasses for that. You can have your prescription added to the glasses, so I will order a pair once I find a style I really like. They have so many styles to choose from, and if you are a gamer, you will LOVE them. I personally like the Sylvanas World of Warcraft-inspired style. Beautiful!
My partner is the editor-in-chief at Fearzine and a gamer, so he sits in front of screens constantly as well. He did have an issue while wearing the glasses, but he has a sensitivity to motion. He is unable to wear VR glasses without getting motion sick. It likely has to do with the curvature of the Gunnar lenses, and as long as he is in front of his computer screen and isn’t moving his head too much, they seem to work well. So, if you have that kind of sensitivity, just keep that in mind. He has also tried wearing them while driving during the day and said they help reduce squinting from reflections and direct sunlight. But also felt slightly nauseous after due to the motion sickness problem, which we think may be related to his slight astigmatism.
