Grime II, a Surreal Dark Fantasy Starring a Mimic, is Coming to PC in 2025
Witness an Art-Obsessed World of Terror and Beauty
Awe-inspiring landscapes strewn with twisted forms and unnatural shapes depict a hostile world to explore in the more fleshy, paint-drenched sequel to a fascinating 2021 Metroidvania. Grime II is a continuation of the concepts and style found in Grime, allowing the games’ developers at Clover Bite to explore beautiful grotesquerie and new action mechanics. With publishing support from Kwalee (Spirit of the Samurai, Voidwrought, Robobeat, etc), Grime II could be a hit in the horror-themed Metroidvania niche, but we won’t know for sure until the game launches on PC sometime this year. Until then, we’ll have to speculate on what to expect from a new gameplay trailer, the features revealed in a recent press release, and the dev diaries being shared to the public.
In Grime II, players don the fleshy mantle of a Formless, a humanoid art mimic whose face might unsettle anyone who shivers during the hand puppet scene in the 1986 film “Labyrinth”. Existing in a strange and wondrous world obsessed with art, the Formless is able to strengthen itself by absorbing other creatures and conjure the shape of beings through a process called mold summoning. This action features an opaque oil paint type of fluid that flows freely, giving the overall art direction a lot of motion. The abundance of pearly white is trimmed with a bright gold, bestowing the visuals with an eerie elegance.
This combined with dynamic backgrounds and encounters with massive nightmare creatures makes Grime II a fascinating sight to behold.
Those who love a bit of mechanical crunch to their games may be delighted to find that Grime II, much like its predecessor, has a lot of Soulslike DNA at its core. Players are able to parry attacks of course, but there’s a secondary option to grapple with one’s foes with whip-like tendrils, allowing for a single use of their abilities and through repetition permanently expands one’s moveset through absorption. Those tendrils are also a part of the game’s traversal mechanics, which includes a lot of grapple hook style zips. With several weapons and powers to craft one’s build, there is an enticing layer of player expression and considering the game takes place in a world hellbent to consume or kill nearly anything in sight, we’ll need all the options we can get to survive.
Grime II is slated for a 2025 release on PC. Loads of additional details can be found on the game’s Steam page and the original Grime is readily available through a Definitive Edition on all major gaming platforms.

Blasting through tormented creatures that symbolize the torturous pain felt by the inmates, The Suffering is an action horror that is well-remembered and is mostly worth playing today.
