Ayasa: Shadow Of Silence, A Dark and Horrific Side-Scroller, Coming to PC on Sept 25th
Fans of Little Nightmares and Limbo Take Notice
If you are like me, you enjoy immersive side-scrolling adventure games that conjure dark, eerie, and often unsettling worlds requiring clever puzzle-solving amid lurking dangers. That’s why Ayasa: Shadows of Silence is so intriguing, a 2.5D platforming adventure with clear influences from the works of Tim Burton and Hayao Miyazaki. “We wanted to create an experience without words, where music, imagery, and play itself tell the story.” says CEO of Aya Games. To me, this screams Limbo — one of my personal favorite contextual story-driven puzzle games drenched in atmosphere.
In Ayasa: Shadows of Silence, you control the titular character, a young girl journeying through a crumbling world plagued by the imbalance of light and darkness. Players will explore six distinct realms, each symbolizing different aspects of the human soul. Along the way, Ayasa will need to utilize stealth, manipulate interactive environments, and solve plenty of puzzles across a horrific and strange landscape.
Ayasa possesses three abilities to navigate her journey: time flow, which allows her to rewind time; the power of light, used to activate mechanisms and reveal her path; and the power of space, granting her invisibility to evade creatures.
We previewed Ayasa in Issue #3 of Fearzine, where Maria Kinnun wrote, “Ayasa is a hauntingly beautiful, dystopian adventure full of mystery and mysticism…” My demo experience immersed me in its evocative atmosphere and thrilling, intense action sequences. However, I found the 2.5D controls wobbly and a bit imprecise. Hopefully, they will have refined these elements by launch as I look forward to delving deeper and exploring the surreal wastes.
Play the demo of Ayasa: Shadows of Silence on the game’s Steam page or Epic Games Store now. Then pick up the full game when it releases on Sept 25th.
