Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE Revealed!

Exciting News For Cult Classic Horror Fans Comes Out of Today’s Nintendo Direct!

During today's Nintendo Direct, a remake for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly was revealed. This surprise announcement from KOEI TECMO has horror fans screaming with joy to learn that a full remake of the beloved classic is coming in early 2026 to PC, PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The original Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly is believed by many to be the best in the series of ghost-riddled horror games. Where the original games were developed by Tecmo, this new REMAKE is being made by TEAM NINJA, most notable for the Ninja Gaiden and NIOH series of games. The original game was released in North America on the PlayStation 2 on December 9, 2003, with an Xbox version following almost a year later on November 1, 2004, featuring new content and an alternate ending.  A previous remake, titled Project Zero 2: Wii Edition, was developed and released for the Wii, but was only made available in Japan, the EU, and Australia. If you missed this horror classic in the States, you can breathe a sigh of relief at this news. Finding an original copy of the game in the States is also very expensive, as resellers are charging up to $200 for a PS2 copy on sites like eBay.

We are very excited about the news, as well as a new trailer for Resident Evil Requiem. Horror fans are eating good right now. If you would like to learn more about Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake and where to preorder the game, head on over to KOEI TECMO website.
